I’m Alicia. For me photography is like therapy. It helps me process. It slows me down and helps me take it all in. I studied sociology and community development in college. Studying patterns of behavior and norm-breaking influenced my eye. It drew me towards the raw unscripted moments we can’t prepare for. I’m from Alabama originally but lived in Hawaii the past three years.

Living with refugees, working with immigrants, and homeless families has taught me a lot. Mainly they taught me that perspective is essential. You have the power to choose what perspective you see from and to find new perspectives that challenge your own.

Words create worlds in people, pictures are worth a thousand. They have the power to change the environment we are in and take our brains to new places. Photos have a way of re-centering us. They can challenge us and make us feel. They make us reflect on what is and what ought to be.
